Post-SMARTER4EU project activities realised and planned

5 June 2025 – Creation and submission of position paper from SMARTER4EU supporting the “Call for Evidence for the European Affordable Housing Plan”.

30 June 2025 – Memorandum of Understanding signed between the S4EU-ECoE and Modular Design – a Ukrainian residential project developer - to evaluate certification for a townhomes in Ukraine.


15 September 2025 – Article written by S4EU-ECoE team for BUILD UP describing how

​

  1. Green mortgages direct private capital toward nearly-zero energy buildings. Financial institutions are updating underwriting models to incorporate energy performance, resulting in lower financing costs.

  2. Lower energy cost exposure supports loan repayment. Green finance mechanisms are used to promote technological and process innovation and

  3. Capacity-building activities are aligning ESG (environmental, social and governance)criteria with underwriting practices to address climate and energy-related risks.

 

7 October 2025 - Contribute article content about SMARTER4EU to the next edition of "Energy
Efficiency - the silent money maker" publication; A collaboration of the European Commission and the Solar Impulse Foundation


8 - 9 October 2025 – S4EU-ECoE team presented SMARTER4EU, the S4EU-ECoE, Green Mortgages and the "Green Homes Accredited Finance Professional™ programme" in Ljubljana, Slovenia to the SMAFIN EXPANDED (supported by EU Horizon 2020 Grant Agreement No 95585). consortium.


7 December 2025 – Capacity Building partnership between S4EU-ECoE and Ukrfinzhytlo (Ukrainian Financial Housing Company) to provide “Green Homes Accredited Financial Professional” programme” to key staff.The organization provides preferential housing loans to reconstruct war damaged homes and is exploring a green finance product to further incentivize green/nZEB housing construction.


8 December 2025 – Memorandum of Understanding signed between the S4EU-ECoE and
Oschadbank of Ukraine. The partnership includes advisory support to implement green finance
programmes, capacity building, and partnerships with client residential project developers.

5 March 2026 – Event organized by the S4EU-ECoE and the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences - Institute of Economics and Forecasting on the topic of the benefits of green mortgages and blended green finance to provide affordable, energy secure, and high quality homes for the country’s future.


30 - 31 March 2026 - International Event in Cluj-Napoca, Romania held in tandem with the Horizon Europe-supported MultiCare project (Grant Agreement no. 101123467) project and the S4EU-ECoE on the topic of green residential projects, financial risk mitigation and underwriting considerations.
